Vista cannot delete printer

I don’t understand why it is so hard to delete a printer in Vista.

Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Printers, then right-click the printer that needs to be deleted, and choose “Delete”. Nothing happens except the printers shows “Deleting”, no error message, printer icon still there. I thought maybe I need to run as administrator, so I right-clicked the printer icon, and choose “Run as administrator”->”Delete”, still no luck.

Finally, I had to do these to get the printer deleted from my computer:

1. Launch Command Prompt with administrator privilege (otherwise, you will get “Access is denied” error when running the following commands)

2. Run this command: net stop spooler

3. Go to C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS, then delete all files under the folder

4. Run this command: net start spooler

5. Refresh Printer list

After the refresh, the printer icon (the one needs to be deleted) disappeared.
